About OpenObserve

Making observability accessible to everyone.

OpenObserve was founded in 2022 to make observability more accessible, complete, and cost-effective: an open source platform that unifies logs, metrics, and traces while dramatically reducing storage costs.

Our Story

Born from the pain of running distributed systems.

OpenObserve emerged from the challenges of managing complex distributed systems. Teams were paying more and more to store telemetry they could barely search, across tools that never quite fit together.

We set out to build the platform we wished we'd had: one place for logs, metrics, and traces, fast enough for real incidents, and efficient enough that keeping everything is the default rather than a luxury.

What we believe

The principles behind every decision we make, from the code we ship to the way we price it.

Open by default

When observability tools hide their inner workings, everyone loses. Our codebase is open so you can inspect it, extend it, or rebuild it to fit your world.

Cost is a feature

Storage costs shouldn't decide what you keep. We engineer for efficiency first so teams can retain everything, not just samples.

Built for scale

Our engineers have optimized query engines and designed architectures that handle billions of events a day. That experience shapes every layer of the platform.

Community-driven

Developers from Boston to Bangalore contribute code that solves problems they've faced firsthand. That diversity of thought takes us places we'd never find alone.

Open Source

Our commitment to open source

Our open source foundation isn't just a checkbox; it's our lifeblood. We've thrown open our codebase so you can peek under the hood, tinker with the engine, or rebuild entire systems to fit your world.

  1. Transparent by design

Nothing is hidden. Every query path, storage format, and ingestion pipeline is in the open, so you can understand exactly what your observability platform is doing with your data.

  2. Shaped by the community

Our community keeps us honest. Contributors bring fixes and features from real production environments, and that feedback loop is how the platform gets better every release.

  3. Sustainable and free

We're pragmatists about sustainability. The core platform stays free for everyone, while our enterprise offerings fund the late-night coding sessions. That balance keeps OpenObserve both accessible and evolving.

We built OpenObserve on a simple truth: the best tech grows in the open.

Our People

Distributed by design. United by obsession.

We're problem-solvers scattered across continents who speak the language of systems at scale. Our engineers have battled production fires, optimized query engines, and designed architectures that handle billions of events daily.

We didn't gather because we shared an office; we connected because we shared obsessions. This distributed DNA shapes everything we build: resilient, global, and uncompromising.
